Frequently Asked Questions

Once your little one is settled for their nap, I’ll finish up any remaining tasks from the day, whether that’s tidying play spaces, cleaning up after meals or activities, or getting things ready for later. Once everything is taken care of, I use the remaining quiet time to eat, recharge, and take a well-deserved break while staying nearby and attentive to your child.
I believe that having a chance to rest during a longer shift helps me stay present, patient, and engaged when your little one wakes up and we’re back to play!

I’m comfortable working around the everyday sniffles, coughs, and common colds that come with having kids! However, I generally avoid providing care when a child has a fever, is vomiting, or has a highly contagious illness. If I’m sick and unable to safely provide care, I’ll communicate with you as soon as possible. Sick days taken by me are unpaid.
Ultimately, every situation is a little different, so communication is key. We can always check in and decide what makes the most sense for everyone.

My current rate is $30/hour for 1–2 children, which can also include additional household support—such as laundry, light tidying, meal prep, or organization, when time allows alongside childcare.
For families with 3 or more children, an additional $5/hour per child applies.
My rates are typically reviewed every 1–2 years and may be adjusted to reflect changes in experience, services, and the cost of living. Any rate changes will always be communicated with families in advance.

Yes! I have extensive experience caring for and supporting neurodivergent children, including children with autism and ADHD.
I understand that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to care. I take the time to learn each child’s individual communication style, sensory needs, routines, interests, strengths, and areas where they may need additional support.
I’m also happy to work alongside parents and other members of a child’s support team to create consistency between their existing strategies and the care I provide. My goal is always to meet children where they’re at and create an environment where they feel understood, supported, and comfortable being themselves.

Guaranteed hours mean that we agree on a set number of regular hours each week that are reserved specifically for your family. You are guaranteed my availability during those hours, and I am guaranteed the corresponding pay.
If your family chooses not to use some or all of those hours—for example, you come home early, plans change, or you simply don’t need care that day—the scheduled hours are still paid. If I’m unavailable due to my own illness, vacation, or requested time off, those hours are unpaid.
Guaranteed hours help create consistency for both of us while ensuring your family has reliable, dedicated care built into your routine.

Yes! Overtime and statutory holiday rates apply in accordance with BC Employment Standards.
Overtime begins after 8 hours of work in a day or 40 hours in a week. Hours worked beyond 8 hours in a day are charged at 1.5× my regular rate, and hours beyond 12 hours in a day are charged at 2× my regular rate.
Statutory holiday rates also apply when eligible. Any overtime or stat rates that apply to your booking will always be communicated clearly in advance.

Yes! When I use my personal vehicle for child-related transportation during scheduled hours, such as school/daycare pick-ups, activities, outings, or errands, mileage is charged according to the current Government of Canada/CRA prescribed mileage rate.
For 2026, this is $0.73/km for the first 5,000 km and $0.67/km thereafter. This helps cover the costs associated with using my personal vehicle, including fuel, maintenance, insurance, and general wear and tear.
Regular travel to and from your home at the beginning and end of my shift is not charged as mileage. The mileage rate may be updated as government rates change.

I understand that schedules change and families need time away! Vacation and time-off expectations are discussed when we begin working together so there are no surprises.
For families with regularly scheduled/guaranteed hours, your usual hours are reserved specifically for you. Because I rely on those hours as part of my regular schedule, guaranteed hours remain paid when your family chooses not to use them, including vacations.
